If, for instance, we are reading a difficult book, the most important thing is not to comprehend its whole content, but to enter into the author’s line of thought and learn to think with him. Hence the pupil should find no book too difficult; if he does, it means only that he is too easy-going to think.
The best books are those we have to take up again and again, books we cannot understand immediately but have to study sentence by sentence.
